Prophesying In The Name of God

Thank-you for calling “SOS Outreach”. This phone presentation will be
running from March 1st to March 15th. Today we will be discussing the very
serious business of prophesying in the name of God.

Let’s start today’s message by reading the 23rd chapter of Jeremiah where
Jehovah God makes it abundantly clear how He feels about anyone who “speaks
from the vision of their own hearts and not from the mouth of Jehovah”.

I’m reading now from the NWT, @ the 23rd chapter of Jeremiah starting at vs.
16:

This is what Jehovah of armies has said: “Do not listen to the words of the
prophets who are prophesying to you people. They are making you become vain.
The vision of their own heart is what they speak—not from the mouth of
Jehovah.
Verse 21:
I did not send the prophets, yet they themselves ran. I did not speak to
them, yet they themselves prophesied.
Verse 25:
“I have heard what the prophets who are prophesying falsehood in my own name
have said, saying, ‘I have had a dream! I have had a dream!’ How long will
it exist in the heart of the prophets who are prophesying the falsehood and
who are prophets of the trickiness of their own heart?”
Verse 32:
“Here I am against the prophets of false dreams,” is the utterance of
Jehovah, “who relate them and cause my people to wander about because of
their falsehoods and because of their boasting.”
“But I myself did not send them or command them. So they will by no means
benefit this people,” is the utterance of Jehovah.
Verse 40:
“And I will put upon you reproach to time indefinite and humiliation to time
indefinite, which will not be forgotten.”

After this message, please read the whole 23rd chapter of Jeremiah.

Now; the question I would like to pose to you today is this:

“At this present day and age, is there a class of people who have been
raised up as prophets of Jehovah God?”

Quote: In behalf of such individuals who at heart seek God’s rule instead
of man’s rule, the “prophet” whom Jehovah has raised up has been, not an
individual man as in the case of Jeremiah, but a class. ... At this late
date there is a mere remnant of this “prophet” class yet on earth. The ‘war
of the great day of God the Almighty’ at Har-Megedon could not start before
this composite “prophet” ends his work.
End of Quote: From the WT of October 1, 1982, pg. 27.

Quote: He had a “prophet” to warn them. This “prophet” was not one man, but
was a body of men and women. It was the small group of footstep followers of
Jesus Christ, known at that time as International Bible Students. Today they
are known as Jehovah’s Christian witnesses.
End of Quote: From the WT of April 1, 1972, pg. 197.

Quote: Those who do not read can hear, for God has on earth today a
prophetlike organization, just as did in the days of the early Christian
congregation (Acts 16:4,5). He designates these Christians as his “faithful
and discreet slave.” (Matt. 24:45-47)
End of Quote: From the WT of October 1, 1964, pg. 601.

Quote: Of course, it is easy to say that this group acts as a “prophet” of
God. It is another thing to prove it. The only way that this can be done is
to review the record. What does it show?
End of Quote: From the WT of April 1,1972, pg. 197.

Quote: The best method of proof is to put a prophecy to the test of time
and circumstances. The Bible invites such a test @ 1John 4:1 & @ Isaiah
45:11.
End of Quote: From the WT of March 1, 1965, pg. 151.

In order to answer the question posed earlier (that is; “Has Jehovah God
raised up a present day prophet or prophet class known as Jehovah’s
Christian witnesses?”), It is imperative that we review their record as the
WT invites us to.

Quote: The battle of the great day of God Almighty, the date of the close
of the battle is definitely marked in scripture as October 1914.
End of Quote: From the WT of January 15, 1892.

Quote: The present “Great War” in Europe is the beginning of the Armageddon
of the scriptures.
End of Quote: From Pastor Russell’s sermons 1917.

Quote: We may confidently expect that 1925 will mark the return of Abraham,
Isaac, Jacob and the faithful prophets of old.
End of Quote: From the WT book “Millions Now Living Will Never Die”, 1920.

Quote: There was a measure of disappointment on the part of Jehovah’s
faithful ones on earth concerning the years 1914,1918 & 1925. They learned
to quit fixing dates for the future and predicting what would come to pass
on a certain date.
End of Quote: From the WT book “Vindication” Vol. 1, 1931, pg.338.

Quote: 6000 years from man’s creation will end in 1975 and the 7th period
of a thousand years of human history will begin in the fall of 1975.
End of Quote: From the WT book “Life Everlasting in Freedom of the Sons of
God”, 1966, pg. 29.

Quote: There are only about 90 months left before 6000 years of man’s
existence on earth is completed. The majority of the people living today
will probably be alive when Armageddon breaks out.
End of Quote: From the March 1968, Kingdom Ministry, pg. 4.

Quote: “However, the prophet who presumes to speak in my name a word that I
have not commanded him to speak or who speaks in the name of other gods,
that prophet must die. And in case you should say in your heart: ‘How shall
we know the word that Jehovah has not spoken?’ When the prophet speaks in
the name of Jehovah and the word does not occur or come true, that is the
word that Jehovah did not speak. With presumptuousness the prophet spoke it.
You must not get frightened at him.
End of Quote: From the Bible, Deuteronomy chapter 18 verses 20-22.

Are you a follower of a self-proclaiming prophetlike organization?

As we can plainly see, the preceding quotations clearly fit the criteria of
being false prophecies. Considering the light that these authors have
revealed to us through their writings in the last 100 years, would it be
wise for us to continue following their counsel for any future prophecies?

Quote: They believe that we are living, since 1914, in the last days of
this wicked system of things; that some who saw the events of 1914 will also
see the complete destruction of the present wicked world...
End of Quote: From the WT book “Reasoning from the Scriptures”, 1985, pg.
200

Quote: Most of the remnant are quite elderly, and over the years the
number of those who are truly anointed has been getting smaller. Evidently,
then, some of Christ’s “chosen ones” will still be on earth when the great
tribulation begins.
End of Quote: From the WT of January 15, 2000, pg. 13.

Instead of looking to “The faithful and discreet slave” for light, would it
not be wise to find counsel in Jehovah’s Son?

Quote: I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the
sheep. The hired hand is not the shepherd who owns the sheep. So when he
sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. ...I am the good
shepherd; I know my sheep and they know me...
End of Quote: Spoken by Jesus, @ John chapter 10: verses 11-14.

Quote: Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
No one knows about the day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the
Son, but only the Father.
End of Quote: Spoken by Jesus, @ Matthew chapter 24: verses 35&36.

Quote: Thomas asked Jesus, “so how can we know the way?” Jesus answered, “I
am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except
through me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From
now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
End of Quote: Spoken by Jesus, @ John chapter 14: verses 6&7.
