THE LORDS SUPPER (MEMORIAL)
LORD'S SUPPER: (The New Passover - To take part means one has
been delivered from sin and passed into new life / a commemoration of the
death - resurrection)
Proclamation of The Lord's Death Till His Coming: 1 Cor 11:23-26
For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that the
Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He
had given thanks, He broke it and said, This is My body, which is for you;
do this in remembrance of Me. In the same way He took the cup also after
supper, saying, This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often
as you drink it, in remembrance of Me. For as often as you eat this bread
and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes.
Instructed To Appropriate It Often: 1 Cor 11:25-26 In the same way
He took the cup also after supper, saying, This cup is the new covenant
in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me. For
as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's
death until He comes.
The Final Great Feast In Heaven (Banquet): Mat 8:11 I say to you
that many will come from east and west, and recline at the table with Abraham,
Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven;
Historical Example Of Taking Cup Frequently: Acts 2:46 Day by day
continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to
house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity
of heart
Early Church Observed It: Acts 2:42 They were continually devoting
themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking
of bread and to prayer.
To Partake Until Christ Comes Again: Mat 26:29 But I say to you,
I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when
I drink it new with you in My Father's kingdom. / Mark 14:25
No Partaking = No Life: John 6:53-54 So Jesus said to them, Truly,
truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink
His blood, you have no life in yourselves. He who eats My flesh and drinks
My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.
Examining Self Before Partaking: 1 Cor 11:28-29 But a man must examine
himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup.
For he who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to himself if he does
not judge the body rightly.
Taking of The Supper Improperly: 1 Cor 11:27 Therefore whoever eats
the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, shall be
guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord. / 1 Cor 11:20-22
Can't Partake of Two Suppers: 1 Cor 10:21 You cannot drink the cup
of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the table of the
Lord and the table of demons.
Remembrance of The Lord Jesus: Luke 22:19 And when He had taken
some bread and given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, This
is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me. / Mt 26:27-28
New Covenant Established in Christ's Blood: Mk 14:24 And He said
to them, This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.
/ Luke 22:20
Supper Represents Christ's Body and Blood: Mk 14:22-24 While they
were eating, He took some bread, and after a blessing He broke it, and
gave it to them, and said, Take it; this is My body. And when He had taken
a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, and they all drank from it.
And He said to them, This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured
out for many.
Christ is The Bread of Heaven: John 6:35 Jesus said to them, I am
the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes
in Me will never thirst.
Christians To Be United In A Meal: 1 Cor 11:18-19 For, in the first
place, when you come together as a church, I hear that divisions exist
among you; and in part I believe it. For there must also be factions among
you, so that those who are approved may become evident among you.
