What is the Gospel (Good News)?
The Book of Acts was a history and record of the early Christian church and a theological book. It begins with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and preaching the Good News (the Gospel.) |
Acts 10:37-43 Peter's sermon contains a precise statement of the Gospel: Jesus perfect life of servant hood; his death on the cross; his resurrection, personally witnessed and experienced by Peter (NIV p 1970) |
1 Cor 15:1-11 Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you, Otherwise you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance; that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the scriptures......this is what we preach, and this is what is to be believed. |
Acts 1:21-22 For one must be a witness of the resurrection |
1 Cor 1:23 But we preach Christ crucified; stumbling block to the Jews and foolishness to gentiles |
Gal 3:1-2 you foolish Galatians...before your very eyes Jesus Christ was portrayed crucified! Did you receive the spirit by observing the law, or by believing what you heard? |
Gal 1:7-8 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel-which is really no gospel at all. Evidently people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! |
* Therefore if we preach 'another gospel: ie 'we can please God by being good,' 'paradise earth,' 'utopia' etc. we are preaching a false gospel! * Judaizers twisted the gospel, they maintained that we had to observe certain customs, belong to Judaism / organization, obey / submit to laws etc.) |
2 Cor 4:2 Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. |
Mark 16:15 Jesus tells us to go preach the Good News |
Lk 10:21 Kingdom is available to all, Gospel is for all: Gen 12:3, Is 42:6, Is 66:19 |
Acts 2:38 Repent and be Baptized in the name of Jesus and you will receive the Holy Spirit |
Acts 4:4 But many of those who had heard the message believed; |
Acts 8:12 But when they believed Philip preaching the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were being baptized, men and women alike. |
Romans 4:5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness, |
Romans 9:33 just as it is written, BEHOLD, I LAY IN ZION A STONE OF STUMBLING AND A ROCK OF OFFENSE, AND HE WHO BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. |
Acts: 1:2 The Holy Spirit gives instructions to the apostles (note: the Holy Spirit is needed to tell the Good News) |
Acts 1:8 Holy Spirit will come & you will be my witnesses ; tell the world the Good News |
Jn 16:13 Spirit of truth, guides in all truth |
1 Cor 2:4,5 The Holy Spirit gave Paul the ability to preach |
1 Cor 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. |
